But the very things that make our area so beautiful—the distinct seasons, historic homes, and abundant wildlife—also present unique challenges for our chimneys. 3. Leaky Crowns & Flashing on Historic and Custom Homes

The chimney crown—the concrete slab at the very top—can develop cracks over time, acting like a funnel for rainwater. Similarly, the metal flashing around the base of the chimney can pull away or rust, creating a direct path for water into your attic and ceilings. A small leak, left unchecked after one of Goochland's heavy summer thunderstorms, can lead to thousands in hidden water damage.
